Georgina (Rutherford) Saunders

Georgina Saunders has been a consultant in Malawi since 2006 and has experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders throughout Malawi and has developed a strong awareness of the changing context of development. 
Georgina has a specialisation in value chain analysis and has completed these for a range of clients and various crops and commodities.  This involved value chain analysis through a climate lens of maize, soy, pigeon pea, groundnut, cow pea and sorghum, looking at how farmers and processors could adapt their activities to work within value chains that are changing in their characteristics due to the impact of climate change.
In regards to Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Georgina is proficient in designing and conducting baseline surveys, project appraisals and sustainability assessments. She has designed survey instruments and led rural fieldwork teams for a range projects including the Ethical Tea Partnership, World Food Programme, UNICEF, UNDP and Christian Aid. Her skills include quantitative and qualitative survey design, implementation and analysis. Georgina has significant experience of working with Excel, SPSS and Minitab statistics programmes and mapping software programme ArcGIS.
Georgina has designed and implemented innovative monitoring tools for inclusive business in the developing work context, specifically looking at the contribution that business can make to development. 

Robin (Grant) Saunders

Robin Saunders is an agricultural development consultant with 20 years’ experience in the production, value addition and marketing of prominent value chains in Malawi.  
His areas of speciality (from seed to final product) are tea, coffee, tobacco and high-end horticulture (chillies, bamboo etc.).  He also, has strong technical expertise in solar irrigation solutions, in particular, those adapted for the rural and smallholder context in Malawi.
Robin’s core competencies include commercial farm management, the development and on-going management of smallholder out-grower schemes, targeted consultancies to inform and lay a road-map for improved smallholder participation in value chain development activities, and, training and technical assistance expertise.
Being born and raised in Malawi, Robin has an intimate knowledge of the cultural and local socio-economic context and is fluent in Chichewa.
